ReefReef Privacy Policy
Summary. Reef does not collect, store or share any personal data. It has no accounts, no servers, no analytics and no advertising. Reef is a player for music you keep on a server you control.
Who we are

What Reef stores on your device
- Your media server address, username and access token, in the iOS Keychain. These are used only to sign in to that server and are removed when you sign out or delete the app.
- A local copy of your library index (album, artist and track metadata) and any music you download or that Reef caches for playback.
- Your preferences (quality, equaliser, appearance, speaker settings) and your pet jellyfish's state.
- An index of your library in Spotlight so it appears in system search. This index lives on your device.
Nothing in this list is transmitted to us. We have no way to see it.
Your own server
Reef connects to the media server you configure. Everything you do in the app, including browsing, playing, favouriting, download requests and playback progress, is a request to that server, exactly as with any client of that server. What the server records is governed by its own settings and its operator's policy, not by Reef. If your server has the optional AudioMuse analyser installed, Reef also queries it at the same server address.
Your local network
With your permission, Reef looks for your media server and for speakers on your Wi-Fi (WiiM/Linkplay, Sonos and other DLNA/UPnP devices) using Bonjour, UDP broadcast and SSDP. It then talks to those devices directly. Nothing about your network is sent anywhere else. You can decline this permission in Settings; Reef then works with a manually entered server address and with AirPlay and Bluetooth.
Third-party services Reef contacts
Reef contacts a small number of public services to provide optional features. None of them receive your identity, your server address or anything about your library beyond what is listed.
- Apple iTunes Search API (itunes.apple.com) receives the search terms and artist names you look up in Discover, and returns album and track results and 30-second previews. Apple's privacy policy applies.
- Odesli (api.song.link) receives the iTunes store page URL of an album you tap and your device's region code (for example "US"), and returns links to the same album at other stores.
- Radio Browser (radio-browser.info) receives your station search terms (name, genre, country) and returns station listings. Playing a station connects your device directly to that broadcaster's stream.
- Store pages (Apple iTunes Store, Bandcamp) open in your browser when you choose to buy. Any purchase is between you and that store; Reef is not involved and earns nothing.
These requests are answered in real time and Reef keeps no record of them beyond your device's own cache.
Apple
If you have enabled "Share with App Developers" in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Analytics, Apple may share aggregated crash and usage statistics with us. This is controlled by you and by Apple; Reef adds no analytics of its own.
Tracking and advertising
Reef does not track you, does not use the advertising identifier, and contains no advertising or third-party analytics SDKs.
Children
Reef is rated 4+ and does not knowingly collect any information from anyone, including children.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version is published at this address with an updated date.
